Too many kids learn English with a focus on tricks and shortcuts to pass tests. I want to increase the number of people who can actually communicate in English. Really learning a language is about cultural literacy, being able actually communicate (with good or bad grammar), and putting the right words in the right order.
Actually, let me expand on that last sentence. Sometimes it is good enough to put OK words in an understandable order. Every sentence doesn’t have to be perfect. Unscripted videos, reality shows, podcasts, and even scripted shows are full of native English speakers misusing words and generally communicating badly. That’s life, so people speaking their second or third language as well as people speaking with people who are speaking their second or third language just need to be empathetic and chill out about the little things.
I will just be streaming my thoughts up in this page for my own peace of mind. This is not a textbook.
